FIFA president Infantino claims CWC is already the world most successful club competition

People with negative opinions may not be impressed by this news as Fifa president Gianni Infantino has claimed that the Club World Cup (CWC) is already the most successful club competition in the world, Softfootball reports.

The competition faced a lot of criticisms and one of the notable voices against the competition was former Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, who felt the competition was the worst idea from the world football governing body.

According to BBC Sports, the Club World Cup has surpassed every club competition in terms of the revenue it generates and its only matched in as per average turnout by the English Premier League.

During a media session at Trump Tower in New York ahead of tomorrow’s final between Chelsea and Paris St-Germain, Infantino explained:

“The golden era of global club football has started.

“We can say definitely that this Fifa Club World Cup has been a huge, huge, huge success. Of course, there are a lot of positives, some negatives.

“We respect everyone’s opinion. It has been successful. We have had over 2.5 million in the stadium. That’s around 40,000 spectators per match – there is no league in the world with that number, except the Premier League which, of course, has home teams and these are neutral stadiums.

“We heard financially it would not work but I can say we generated over $2bn in revenues with this competition. We earned on average $33m per match. There is no other cup competition in the world that comes close to $33m per match.

“It is already the most successful club competition in the world with all different measurements.”

Softfootball had reported earlier that Cole Palmer has expressed confidence in Chelsea’s chances of beating Paris Saint-Germain in Sunday’s FIFA Club World Cup final, despite acknowledging the French giants as “probably the best team in the world.”

Chelsea and PSG are set for a blockbuster final on Sunday. It’s a battle between the UEFA Conference League champions versus the European Champions League winners. Both teams are in for a huge pay-day regardless of the winner.
