This year’s edition brings together teams from all six football confederations. Twelve European sides, six South American clubs, and four teams each from Africa, Asia, and North America have qualified, alongside one representative from Oceania and the host team, Inter Miami.
Qualification is based on historic performances in continental competitions dating as far back as 2021. Chelsea, for example, qualify through their Champions League triumph in 2021, while Manchester City secured their place by winning the 2022/23 edition.
Group A kicks off with Inter Miami, who earned their place as the 2024 MLS Supporters’ Shield winners, facing Egypt’s Al Ahly, who claimed their spot by winning the 2020/21 CAF Champions League. Group B includes Champions League winners PSG, joined by Atletico Madrid, Botafogo, and the Seattle Sounders.
Among other headline names are Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Juventus, River Plate, and Fluminense, making this the most competitive Club World Cup to date. The tournament also saw LAFC qualify via a play-in match after Club Leon’s disqualification due to multi-club ownership conflicts.
