Barcelona got a welcome lift before their trip to La Cartuja, with both Fermín López and Frenkie de Jong receiving medical clearance right in time for the clash against Real Betis. SoftFootball reported on Barça’s growing momentum in LaLiga while highlighting how the team is trying to extend their lead at the top as Betis work hard to protect their unbeaten home run.

That update, which was shared on the club’s official X account, followed another SoftFootball report explaining how Barça’s strong victory over Atlético Madrid had set the tone for a confident week. The feeling around the team has been a bit mixed, but these returns add some brightness to the dressing room.

Fermín’s comeback is slightly surprising because he had been expected to be out a bit longer after that soleus issue in his right leg. SoftFootball had earlier hinted that the youngster was nearing a return, and it turns out he pushed harder than most expected, training fully and convincing the medical staff he was good to go.
Frenkie de Jong also checked back in after missing games with a feverish illness and some personal issues. He looked sharp in training, and Flick confirmed he is in the starting XI. The Dutchman’s control and calmness in midfield will be important, especially against a Betis side that presses high and plays with good energy.

Hansi Flick sounded fairly happy in his press conference, although he tried not to get carried away. He said Fermín will probably come off the bench and get minutes gradually, but he did not want to commit too strongly since Barça’s schedule is tight and muscle injuries can be tricky.
Dani Olmo’s injury still stings a little. He dislocated his shoulder midweek and might not return until January, which forces Barça to rely more on youth again. The squad list is long but still feels a bit thin in certain areas. Ter Stegen, Gavi, and Araujo are still unavailable.

Araujo’s absence, explained as time away for mental health reasons, means Gerard Martín is stepping up again. Flick said he’s impressed with how disciplined and calm the defender has been.
Lamine Yamal also continues playing through osteitis pubis, yet Flick says the youngster keeps improving in both pressing and end product. Seven goals and eight assists in 15 matches tell their own story.
With Betis in good form and Barcelona flying high, the returns of Frenkie and Fermín arrive at just the right moment.
