Manchester City advanced to the FA Cup quarter-finals after a 3–1 comeback victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park on March 7, 2026.

City initially went behind when Harvey Barnes scored in the 18th minute, but Pep Guardiola’s rotated side responded strongly. The equaliser came in the 39th minute when Savinho finished after a cross from Jérémy Doku deflected into his path.

The second half was dominated by Omar Marmoush, who scored just two minutes after the restart before sealing the win with a stunning 25-yard strike in the 65th minute.

Following the match, fans flooded social media with reactions to the performance.

JOF praised City’s control of the match, writing:

“Man City dominated possession… Omar Marmoush’s brace was the difference.”

VCO jokingly warned:

“Congratulations City, I pray you don’t meet Chelsea because JP will thrash your team 🥹.”

Olabode applauded the attackers, saying:

“Beautiful second half. Great game for both Marmoush and Savinho.”

Meanwhile YK took a playful jab at Newcastle, posting:

“Newcastle, regular customer.”

Uzoma Victor praised Guardiola with the comment:

“Take your Flowers 🌺 Gbadiola.”

Another supporter named Anonymous added that the two standout performers deserve more opportunities, writing:

“These two [Marmoush and Savinho] have to start in every Premier League match.”

The win continues City’s strong run of results. Earlier in the week they drew 2–2 with Nottingham Forest, a match that sparked controversy after Bernardo Silva criticized the referee for not awarding a penalty involving Erling Haaland.

City also secured a 1–0 win over Leeds United the previous week thanks to a goal from Antoine Semenyo.

Softfootball analyzed that Manchester City’s squad depth remains a major factor as Guardiola’s side continues chasing success across multiple competitions, including the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League.
