Victor Osimhen has set Nigerian football Twitter buzzing after revealing his ideal all-time Nigerian five-a-side team, a list that blended legends with modern stars but also left out some names fans believe are simply untouchable, Softfootball reports.
In a short video interview shared by B/R Football on X, the Super Eagles striker was asked to pick his ultimate Nigerian five-a-side. Osimhen’s selections were bold and personal — clearly influenced by players he either grew up watching or has shared the pitch with.

His picks included Calvin Bassey in defence, John Obi Mikel and Jay-Jay Okocha in midfield, with Nwankwo Kanu and Odion Ighalo leading the line.
While many fans praised the balance between flair, strength and experience in Osimhen’s choices, others were quick to point out the absence of Rashidi Yekini, Nigeria’s all-time leading goalscorer, and legendary goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, omissions that immediately fueled heated debate online.

Fans React to Osimhen’s Five-a-Side Picks
sly commented:
Bassey has been brutally good but I probably do not agree,
The Transfer Tackle said:
No doubt Bassey is world class and currently one of the best defenders in Europe and Africa right now.
Gabriela wrote:
Loving how he’s repping current beasts and legends in one lineup. Football at its best — players building the ultimate teams. What a vibe!
Bob Not Marley commented:
Osimhen casually forgetting Rashidi Yekini is the reason he’s not Nigeria’s all-time leading goalscorer. Not Ighalo but Yekini. Such a forgotten legend,”
Emifok added:
That five-a-side would be pure chaos in the best way. Pace, strength and street football everywhere. Nigeria has produced ridiculous talent,”
Christopher Maduewesi said:
Only change I’d make is swapping Ighalo for Yekini. I guess Osimhen chose the players he watched.
Adeolaar commented:
People really don’t know how good Bassey has become. He’s on the path to becoming one of our greatest defenders.
AFCON Performances Back Osimhen’s Choices
Osimhen’s inclusion of Calvin Bassey was further backed by recent performances, as both players were outstanding for Nigeria at the just-concluded AFCON, where the Super Eagles narrowly missed out on a place in the final but secured the third-place medal after a penalty shootout win over Egypt.

Their influence did not go unnoticed, with Victor Osimhen, Calvin Bassey, and Ademola Lookman all named in the AFCON Team of the Tournament following their fantastic displays for Nigeria.
While fans may continue to argue over who deserved a spot and who was snubbed, Osimhen’s list has once again highlighted the depth, history, and generational talent Nigerian football has produced — a debate that never truly ends, and perhaps never should.
