Euro 2025: “Go out there and enjoy it” – Prince William rallies Lionesses ahead of title defence

The England Women’s national team received a royal send-off from Prince William, the Prince of Wales, as they gear up to defend their European Championship crown in Switzerland this month.

The Lionesses were crowned champions at the last Euro after defeating Germany in the final to record their maiden Championship title in 2022.

During Prince William’s visit, the Patron of the English FA visited the Lionesses at St George’s Park, where he was welcomed by head coach Sarina Wiegman and FA CEO Mark Bullingham.

According to Prince William, as reported by The Athletic, England receive send-off from Prince William ahead of Euros defence which was a means to charge the ladies ahead of their European Championship campaign in July.

“I just want to say the best of luck to all of you,” Prince William told the players. “There’s a lot of expectation because of what you’ve already achieved, and rightly so. But I know you’ll approach this tournament with freedom, belief and strong camaraderie.”

That team spirit was on full display throughout the visit, as there were photo sessions to corroborate the august visit from the royal house.

“For those of you heading into your first major tournament, I wish you the very best,” the Prince said. “You look calm and confident; that’s brilliant. Go out there and enjoy yourselves,” Prince William advised.

The Prince of Wales then concluded that the team should remain strong and value team bonding during the tournament.

“You’re a special group. You have something rare in sport, a real bond. Hold onto it, build on it. It’s one of your greatest strengths.”

Meanwhile, Sarah Wiegman expressed her appreciation towards the Prince of Wales for his timely moral support to the team ahead of the tournament, which begins July 5th in Switzerland.

“You always show incredible support. We know you’re a real fan of the Lionesses,” she said. “We’re ready to go. We want to make you proud, make our families proud, and make the nation proud.”

As England prepares to defend their title this month, Softfootball reported earlier how Millie Bright Withdraws from England Squad for Euro 2025 Citing Health Concerns, which could be a worry for Coach Sarah Wiegman.

Against all odds, England will open their Euro 2025 campaign in Group D, aiming to retain their title with their first game against France as they continue their remarkable journey under Wiegman’s leadership.
