Gianluigi Donnarumma has revealed that he never wanted to join another club except for Manchester City when he left Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Softfootball reports.

The Italian international penned a five-year deal with the Cityzens this summer. The deal is expected to keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2030.

According to football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle, Donnarumma had his mind set on a move to Manchester City after PSG manager, Luis Enrique pushed him out of the club by dropping him for the UEFA Super Cup after helping the club win the Champions League with a comprehensive 5-0 win over Inter Milan in the final. He said:

Donnarumma: I was very clear; my desire was to join Man City. That was my first and only option, the only thing I wanted.

I’m happy to be here, happy to be here at Coty, part of this fantastic team, a fantastic family, give so much to these colours, to this badge.

The 26-year-old made his Manchester City debut during the 3-0 demolition of bitter rivals Manchester United at the Etihad last Saturday and the former AC Milan goalkeeper will hope to consolidate on that performance which he makes his UEFA Champions League debut with City against Napoli on Thursday.

It will be a weird match for most of Manchester City fans because cult hero, Kevin de Bruyne will be returning to face the club he gave a decade of his career. The Belgian left the Etihad at the summer to join Antonio Conte’s men and has been one of the shining lights in the team alongside former Manchester United midfielder, Scott McTominay and ex-Chelsea forward, Romelu Lukaku.
