Memphis Depay overtook Wesley Sneijder as Netherlands assist king as he helped his country to a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Finland in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, Softfootball reports.
The former Manchester United winger, who only recently overtook Robin Van Persie as the Orange nation’s all-time leading scorer with his goal against Lithuania showed no signs of slowing down as he ran the show this evening.

The match was easily for the home side inside the Johan Cruyff Arena as Depay sets up Aston Villa’s Donyell Malen and he made no mistake as he scored from the edge of the box to open the scoring.
The 31-year-old then provided his second assist of the game as he swung in a free-kick which was converted by Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk to make it 2-0. The double assist took him to 35 and above Wesley Sneijder’s record of 33 assists.
Depay, the Corinthians forward scored a first half penalty in a comprehensive first half display to extend his goals for the Netherland to 54. The Dutch side added one more goal in the second half as Cody Gakpo finished off an assist from Tottenham’s Xavi Simons to make it 4-0.

Netherlands remain top of Group G with 16 points while Finland sit third with 10 points after six matches.
