Liverpool are preparing for a summer shake-up, and Darwin Nunez looks set to be one of the major names heading out. Despite netting 40 goals across three seasons, the Uruguayan striker hasn’t consistently lived up to the expectations that followed his £85m move from Benfica in 2022.

Manager Arne Slot is open to offloading the 25-year-old this window, with funds from any sale likely to support his ongoing squad rebuild. Nunez’s name has already circulated in January transfer talks, but the club avoided disruption mid-season while they chased the league title.

Now, however, with plans progressing rapidly under Slot, Liverpool have already secured Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong and are reportedly close to sealing a £115m deal for Florian Wirtz. With fresh faces arriving, outgoings like Nunez are essential to balance both the books and squad dynamics.

Napoli are among the frontrunners vying for Nunez’s signature, with new boss Antonio Conte keen to bring the striker to Serie A. Napoli have just landed Kevin De Bruyne and want Nunez to lead their frontline next season. Reports from Italy suggest Nunez is open to the move, while Liverpool have made it clear they want at least £50m from any deal.

Nunez’s mixed Premier League record includes 25 goals and 13 assists from 95 appearances, but also a frustrating number of missed opportunities. That inconsistency has opened the door for rivals, including AC Milan, who are also looking for a striker to fit new coach Massimiliano Allegri’s system.

While European suitors dominate the picture, Saudi clubs have also shown interest. However, Nunez reportedly prefers to stay within top European competition, at least for now. PSG, fresh from a Champions League triumph, have even been encouraged to look into signing the forward to bolster their squad depth.

Whether it’s Paris, Naples, or Milan, Nunez’s departure from Anfield seems more likely than ever. Liverpool are aiming for a fresh attacking dynamic under Slot, and the sale of one of their most high-profile recent signings may be the key to unlocking their next evolution.
