Cunha move puts pressure on Mount amid United reshuffle

Manchester United’s summer shake-up is in full swing, and Mason Mount may be among the players most affected. With the club prioritizing attacking reinforcements, the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5 million marks a major step in reshaping the frontline.

Mount’s role at Old Trafford is under scrutiny, especially as Ruben Amorim eyes further additions. Bryan Mbeumo is the next name on the list, with United having made a second bid for the Brentford forward. Mbeumo and Cunha combined for 35 league goals last season, underlining their potential impact.

The Portuguese manager is expected to build around a 3-4-2-1 system, with Cunha likely to be a guaranteed starter. That leaves limited space for players like Mount, who could struggle to secure regular minutes, particularly in advanced roles off the striker.

Former United coach Rene Meulensteen has warned that Mount’s spot is at risk. Despite some impressive late-season performances, including a brace in the Europa League semi-final, Mount’s lack of consistent game time due to injuries has left him vulnerable in the pecking order.

While speculation has started to swirl about Mount’s long-term future, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that the midfielder remains committed to the club and plans to join pre-season training under Amorim.

Mount has started only 13 league matches across two seasons and now faces fresh competition in a squad undergoing significant evolution. The pressure is mounting as Amorim assembles a squad built for greater attacking output, following a season in which United managed only 44 league goals.

With more signings likely on the way, Mount’s challenge will be not only to stay fit but to prove he still belongs in United’s plans moving forward.
