Softfootball has gathered that Jordan Henderson is set to make his return to the Premier League, with Brentford poised to sign the former Liverpool captain on a free transfer.
The Athletic announced that the 35-year-old midfielder, who recently left Ajax by mutual agreement, is expected to join Brentford on a two-year deal running until the summer of 2027.
While the move is close to completion, final medical checks and paperwork are scheduled for this weekend, with an official announcement delayed until next week out of respect for Diogo Jota and his family following the tragic passing of the ex-Liverpool forward.

Henderson had attracted interest from clubs across Europe, but a return to England was always his priority. Brentford moved quickly to secure the experienced midfielder once it became clear that captain Christian Nørgaard would be joining Arsenal. Henderson’s leadership and pedigree were key factors in Brentford’s decision to make him their top target.
The Bees are undergoing a significant rebuild after finishing tenth in the Premier League last season. With Nørgaard heading to the Emirates, goalkeeper Mark Flekken moving to Bayer Leverkusen, and Bryan Mbeumo eyeing a switch to Manchester United, the club is reshaping under new leadership following Thomas Frank’s departure to Tottenham Hotspur in June.
Recall that Softfootball had earlier reported that the former Reds captain, Henderson was likely to make a return to Anfield before another twist. The English player was likely to make a return to Anfield, where he enjoyed good fortune and where he won the Champions League and the EPL.
Henderson, who made 492 appearances for Liverpool and lifted both the Premier League and Champions League trophies, is also targeting a spot in England’s squad for the 2026 World Cup. He featured in the first two squads selected by new manager Thomas Tuchel and won his 84th cap in a recent win over Andorra.
