Cristian Chivu couldn’t have wished for a better start to life as Inter Milan manager. In his first Serie A match in charge, the Nerazzurri dismantled Torino 5-0 at San Siro, recording their biggest-ever win over I Granata since the 1958/59 season, Softfootball reports.
Having fallen agonizingly short of defending the Scudetto last term, Inter began their 2025/26 campaign determined to send a message. They didn’t take long to get going either. 18 minitues on the clock, Alessandro Bastoni rose highest to glance home Nicolò Barella’s corner, the ball sailing over Franco Israel and nestling into the far corner.

The momentum only grew from there. Marcus Thuram punished Torino’s slack defending later in the first half, calmly slotting past Israel to double Inter’s advantage and underline the gulf in quality between the two sides.
After the break, captain Lautaro Martínez effectively ended the contest. A sloppy backpass from Torino gifted him a chance he wasn’t going to miss, and the Argentine pounced to make it 3-0.
Inter, who watched champions Napoli collect three points in their own opener, looked determined to make a statement of intent. They kept pushing, and Thuram struck again beyond the hour mark , rising above his marker to nod in Bastoni’s pinpoint delivery for his brace.

The final word belonged to new summer signing Ange-Yoan Bonny. In a moment that summed up Torino’s defensive misery, Martínez dispossessed the visitors while they tried to play out from the back, before unselfishly squaring for Bonny to tap home his first goal in Inter colors.
By the final whistle, the scoreboard read 5-nil, Inter’s heaviest win over Torino in more than six decades. The result also marked their first opening-day victory under a foreign-born coach since 2003, making it a historic and emphatic beginning to Chivu’s reign.
