Chelsea have stepped up efforts to secure the signing of Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, with club-to-club discussions now well underway to facilitate the 21-year-old transfer to Stamford Bridge.
The Argentine, who was placed in Ruben Amorim’s five-man ‘bomb squad’ at the start of the summer alongside fellow exiles Jadon Sancho, Antony, Marcus Rashford and Tyrell Malacia, is seeking an escape from Old Trafford ahead of what promises to be a season permanently on the sidelines.
Softfootball had reported earlier that Garnacho has made it clear that Chelsea is his preferred destination, and personal terms between the player and the Blues have already been agreed.
The two clubs are currently negotiating the transfer fee, with Chelsea hopeful of finalizing the deal soon. The Red Devils, who initially wanted £70m for Garnacho, have reportedly reduced their asking price to £50m in the hope of securing his exit.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via his X handle, Chelsea have intensified negotiations with United over a potential deal for Garnacho, having already reached an agreement on personal terms with the player with the Argentine determined to make the move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
His tweet reads:
“Chelsea step up talks for Alejandro Garnacho! Club to club discussions with Man United are now well underway.
“Garnacho only wants Chelsea, personal terms are agreed and the two clubs are in negotiation over fee.
“Garnacho, expected to become #CFC player this summer”.
Garnacho has played 144 games for Manchester United and scored 26 goals, while providing 22 assists. It is understood that Chelsea’ hierarchy have no concerns over his character after doing their homework.
Meanwhile, the World Champions have also entered talks with RB Leipzig over a potential swap deal for Xavi Simons. The deal would see Chelsea misfit Christopher Nkunku move in the other direction.
