Chelsea are stepping up their pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix, with negotiations now being handled at ownership level as the Blues push to complete a deal.
Softfootball reported on 18 July that Arsenal had entered the race to hijack Chelsea’s long-standing interest in Lacroix after William Saliba suffered a serious back injury during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Crystal Palace are holding firm on a valuation of at least £60 million, but the latest discussions between the clubs have been positive, with Chelsea continuing to work towards an agreement.
Lacroix remains Chelsea’s priority target at centre-back, and talks are ongoing with both Crystal Palace and the player’s representatives. The French defender is understood to be keen on a move to Stamford Bridge, further boosting the Blues’ confidence.
However, Chelsea have continued to press ahead with negotiations and are now leading the race, with the deal gathering momentum as the club looks to strengthen Xabi Alonso’s defensive options before the new season.
