Chelsea are reportedly on the verge of completing a deal for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens as negotiations between both clubs gain momentum. Talks resumed after the Club World Cup transfer window closed earlier this month, with the Blues optimistic about reaching a swift agreement.
The 20-year-old had attracted significant attention from Stamford Bridge, especially following the uncertainty around Mykhaylo Mudryk and the confirmed exit of Jadon Sancho. Gittens has long been a target for Chelsea, who previously had two bids rejected — the latest around €50 million — with Dortmund demanding over €65 million (£55 million).
Despite this, reports now indicate Chelsea and Gittens already have a personal agreement in place, with a seven-year deal “ready to go” once a transfer fee is finalized. Bayern Munich have shown late interest, but Chelsea appear to be leading the race.
Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl admitted earlier that the initial deal fell apart due to “different ideas about the player’s current value,” but shared involvement in the Club World Cup has reportedly helped renew momentum in talks.
Gittens enjoyed a strong 2024–25 campaign, contributing 12 goals and five assists in 49 appearances. His limited involvement at the Club World Cup – just one substitute appearance so far – may also be a sign Dortmund are preparing for his departure.
Chelsea’s summer business has already been brisk. The Blues have completed deals for Liam Delap, Willian Estevao, Dario Essugo, and Mamadou Sarr, spending over £85 million in total. In addition, 18-year-old Kendry Paez, signed in 2023, is now officially eligible to join the squad.
Elsewhere, Chelsea have cooled their interest in AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan but remain active. Possible future signings include Brighton’s Joao Pedro, Lyon’s Malick Fofana, and even Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho. With their transfer strategy clearly focused on long-term potential and squad depth, Chelsea’s aggressive pursuit of Gittens suggests he could be central to their rebuild under Enzo Maresca.
