Chelsea are reportedly in direct talks with Borussia Dortmund over the transfer of Carney Chukwuemeka this summer. The 21-year-old joined the World Champions from Aston Villa in the summer of 2022 and has made 32 appearances for the Blues.
The England international has been heavily linked with a move to RB Leipzig as a possible makeweight in a deal that could see Xavi Simons move to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have been in talks with both the club and winger in recent weeks as they look to sign yet more players before the start of the new season.

Chukwuemeka was loaned to Dortmund during the 2025 January transfer window, where he made a strong impact, making 16 appearances.
He came on for the last 15 minutes during Dortmund’s 3-2 defeat by Real Madrid in the Club World Cup quarter-finals, and after that he returned to his parent club for the pre-season.
It’s been no secret that the England international wants to stay at Dortmund into next season after spending a season on loan there last campaign.
But it always looked like something that had gone cold and would not happen due to the fact that Dortmund seemingly only wanted to do another loan, yet Chelsea wanted a permanent transfer.
Well, it might still get done because Dortmund and Chelsea are now in talks again according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via his X handle, he reported that Dortmund have initiated direct talks with Chelsea over signing the midfielder, and the negotiation is ongoing to reach a solution as Chukwuemeka is open to the move.
He tweeted:
“Understand Borussia Dortmund have reactivated direct talks with Chelsea for Carney Chukwuemeka.
“Negotiations ongoing between the clubs to find a solution as Carney wants the move.
“Chelsea insist on permanent transfer.”
Chukwuemeka signed for the Blues from Aston Villa in a £20m deal in 2022, but has been unable to break into the first team. He has started just four Premier League games since the move to west London and is open to an exit in search of regular minutes.
