Chelsea have officially confirmed that captain Reece James signed a new contract extension that will keep him at the club until June 2032 as shared by Fabrizio on his official X channel.
Romano reported:
OFFICIAL: Reece James signs new Chelsea deal until June 2032. “I am over the moon to have extended my contract – Chelsea means so much to me. have always said I want my peak years to be here, and I truly believe we have everything it takes to build on our previous successes”.
The 26-year-old right-back, who came through Chelsea’s academy, remains one of the most important figures in the squad despite a career affected by recurring injuries. Softfootball earlier reported that James was previously forced to withdraw from the England national football team squad due to fitness issues. When fully fit he is widely regarded as one of Europe’s top full-backs.
Since making his senior debut, James has made 225 appearances for Chelsea, contributing 47 goal involvements while helping the club secure five major trophies. His leadership qualities eventually led to him being appointed club captain, further cementing his importance to the team.
Speaking after signing the extension, James expressed his happiness at committing his future to the club. He emphasized that money is not everything, stating that his main goal is to win trophies and achieve success with Chelsea.
Reece James: “Could I get more money elsewhere? Maybe, but money is not the be-all and end-all”. “Happiness and where I want to be means more to me. I want to win here – and we will win here at Chelsea”.

The announcement has been welcomed by supporters, who see the deal as a key step in strengthening long-term project and defensive stability despite Chelsea suffering a 5–2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, with defensive mistakes proving costly.
