Chelsea remain in active talks with Bayer Leverkusen over a potential move for highly rated midfielder Kerim Alajbegović, with negotiations continuing as the Blues explore a deal.
Softfootball previously confirmed that Chelsea entered the race for the Bayer Leverkusen youngster after head coach Xabi Alonso personally identified him as a priority target. The Spaniard has closely followed Alajbegović’s development and believes he fits the club’s long-term vision.
Despite recent speculation, we understands there is no £34 million bid on the table. Discussions are currently centred around a significantly lower fee, while several Italian clubs remain firmly in the race for the 18-year-old.
Alajbegović has yet to make a final decision on his future, with interest from both Chelsea and Serie A sides keeping the transfer battle wide open.
Chelsea’s interest has already disrupted the midfielder’s proposed move to Atalanta, and negotiations are expected to continue as all parties work towards finding an agreement before the transfer window closes.
