As Chelsea prepare for the new Premier League season and their return to Champions League action, efforts to reinforce the wide areas of the squad have intensified. Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens is now firmly in their sights, with negotiations reportedly reaching an advanced stage.
The 20-year-old winger is currently with Dortmund in the USA for the Club World Cup, having remained with his current team after a prior attempt by Chelsea to secure his services fell through just before the tournament. That earlier effort was stalled by disagreements over the transfer fee. Now, Chelsea appear to be making significant headway in reaching an agreement with the German club.
Gittens, who developed through the Dortmund academy after leaving Manchester City in 2020, delivered an impressive 2024–25 campaign with 12 goals and five assists from 49 competitive matches. His total record at Dortmund stands at 17 goals and 14 assists across 107 appearances—a level of consistency that’s drawn the attention of Chelsea’s recruitment team.
The Blues are reportedly finalizing a long-term contract for the England youth international. Once the final structure of the deal is agreed upon, Gittens is expected to undergo a medical and sign a seven-year contract. His addition would immediately bolster Chelsea’s depth on the wings.

Chelsea’s pursuit of Gittens is partly driven by a thinning pool of wide players. The club declined to make Jadon Sancho’s loan move permanent, opting instead to pay a penalty fee to cancel their buying obligation. Raheem Sterling is also expected to depart permanently following his loan to Arsenal, while Mykhaylo Mudryk remains provisionally suspended after a failed drug test in December.
This leaves Enzo Maresca with limited options out wide—primarily Pedro Neto, Noni Madueke, and Tyrique George—making Gittens a strategic reinforcement ahead of a demanding season both domestically and in Europe.
Chelsea are aiming to complete the signing before the Premier League kicks off in August, and all signs now point toward a successful conclusion to the deal in the coming days.
