Chelsea have reached a verbal agreement with Aston Villa for the signing of Morgan Rogers, with a deal worth £117 million now being finalised.
The 23-year-old attacker is expected to travel to London on Monday to complete his medical and sign a long-term contract running until June 2032, with an option to extend for a further year.
Chelsea moved swiftly to complete the transfer after learning of Arsenal’s serious interest in the England international. The Blues accelerated negotiations to avoid a bidding battle, with all documentation now prepared ahead of the formal completion of the deal.
Softfootball gathered Xabi Alonso played a key role in convincing Rogers to choose Stamford Bridge, with the Chelsea head coach identifying the versatile forward as a priority addition for the club’s attacking rebuild.
Arsenal had placed Rogers high on their shortlist for a new left winger alongside Bradley Barcola and Christos Tzolis, but the player ultimately opted for Chelsea, allowing the Blues to move ahead of their London rivals in one of the summer’s biggest transfers.
An official announcement is expected after Rogers successfully completes his medical.
