Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall may be heading for a swift Chelsea exit after just one season, with Burnley showing interest in the midfielder as they prepare for their Premier League return. Scott Parker, the Clarets’ new boss, is actively pursuing midfield reinforcements, and Dewsbury-Hall has emerged as a potential option.
Despite making a £30 million move from Leicester City last summer, Dewsbury-Hall has struggled to establish himself at Stamford Bridge. He was reunited with manager Enzo Maresca, but competition in Chelsea’s midfield left the 25-year-old on the fringes of the squad. He featured in just 258 Premier League minutes, making only two starts throughout the campaign.
Chelsea’s summer has already seen several new signings, including Liam Delap, Mamadou Sarr, and Dario Essugo, as they gear up for their Club World Cup opener against LAFC in Atlanta. But alongside incoming talent, the club is aiming to trim a bloated squad, with up to 15 players reportedly available for transfer.
While Dewsbury-Hall did play a role in Chelsea’s successful Conference League run—registering seven goal contributions in 13 games—he was only a late substitute in the final against Real Betis. His limited league action has prompted speculation over a move, and interest in his services has continued to build.
In addition to Burnley, who are rebuilding to avoid another relegation fight, the club is also tracking Fulham’s Harrison Reed and Brentford’s Yegor Yarmolyuk. It’s unclear whether Dewsbury-Hall would leave on loan or in a permanent deal, though he still has four years left on his £80,000-a-week contract.
Dewsbury-Hall was surprisingly included in Chelsea’s Club World Cup squad, but it remains doubtful he’ll feature prominently. Even Chelsea legend William Gallas weighed in, suggesting Signing Dewsbury-Hall was a mistake.
With Chelsea seeking more squad balance and Burnley on the hunt for Premier League-ready players, Dewsbury-Hall’s departure seems increasingly likely. His next step could provide the regular playing time he needs to reignite his career.
