Brentford’s Igor Thiago Wins Premier League Player of the Month

3 Min Read

Igor Thiago has written himself into a big chapter of Brentford history, becoming the club’s first-ever player to win the Premier League Player of the Month award.

Igor has been on fire through November, scoring five goals in four matches and pretty much carrying the Bees’ attack on his back at times. The Premier League announced Igor Thiago had won the Premier League Player of the Month for November award via their official X account.

Softfootball understands that his brightest night probably came in the 3-1 win over Newcastle United at Gtech Community Stadium. scoring a calm penalty, the kind of finish you take when you’re not really overthinking anything.

Later on, he reacted faster than everyone else to a loose ball high up the pitch, took a couple of touches without rushing, and slid it past Aaron Ramsdale like it was nothing. Brentford needed a spark, and he gave them two.

Even in the defeat to Brighton, he still chipped in with another penalty. Then came Burnley, and Thiago just kept going. He scored twice again in another 3-1 win, pushing his season tally to 11 Premier League goals already.

After receiving the award, Thiago looked genuinely surprised in the best way.

He said:

It means so much to me. I’m really happy to receive this because it means my hard work on the pitch has paid off.I’m surprised! But hopefully I can receive more of these this season. I’m so happy and proud of myself.

You could feel he meant it too, not just saying the usual football things. Brentford has not scored in the Premier League this month, following consecutive 2-0 defeats to Arsenal and Tottenham, but Igor would be hoping to change that as the team is set to face Leeds United this weekend.

To win the award, he beat some massive names like Harvey Barnes, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Jérémy Doku, Bruno Fernandes, Morgan Gibbs-White, Reece James and even Arsenal’s Declan Rice.

If Thiago keeps scoring at this pace, Brentford might’ve quietly found one of the Premier League’s next big problems for defenders. And November might just be the first of many moments he ends up stealing the spotlight.
