Bayern Munich vs Club Brugge: Relentless Bayern Aim to Keep Perfect UCL Record Alive

6 Min Read

Bayern Munich will look to maintain their 100% winning record in this season’s UEFA Champions League as they welcome Club Brugge to the Allianz Arena. Life as a Bayern supporter could hardly get better right now a 2-1 victory over fierce rivals Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker at the weekend made it seven wins from seven in the Bundesliga, Softfootball reports.

That result, coupled with their dominant 3-1 win over Chelsea to kick off their UCL campaign, has left the German champions top of the league phase standings. Vincent Kompany’s men have carried that same ruthlessness across all fronts this season, and the Belgian coach will be eager to see his side extend their incredible 35-match unbeaten home run in the UCL group stage/league phase since December 2013.

At the heart of their success is the red-hot form of Harry Kane, who has been on a record-breaking scoring spree since arriving in Munich. The English forward has netted 17 goals in just 10 appearances this season and recently admitted he “enjoyed every moment” of the Der Klassiker victory against Dortmund.

His consistency has made him not just Bayern’s talisman but arguably Europe’s most clinical striker this term. If Kane and Leroy Sané continue their dazzling partnership, Bayern could edge closer to what might be a seventh UCL crown, though Kompany will be mindful of defensive vulnerabilities, as his team has kept just four clean sheets across his 16 UCL games in charge.

Club Brugge, meanwhile, arrive in Bavaria hoping to cause a monumental upset. They have been in strong domestic form since mid-September, losing only once in their last seven matches across all competitions. A narrow 1-0 victory at the weekend further underlined their discipline and tactical organisation, but their finishing let them down in their last UCL fixture, a 2-1 defeat to Atalanta which they’ll look to quickly put behind them.

Avoiding back-to-back defeats in the competition’s group phase for the first time since 2021 will be their key motivation here.

Manager Ronny Deila’s side will take confidence from their attacking depth, having scored 16 goals across their last seven matches, with Christos Tzolis playing a central role. The Greek winger has been in fine form, scoring four goals in his last six appearances for club and country, including the winner in their domestic triumph at the weekend.

However, Brugge’s defensive record away from home in Europe remains a major concern, they haven’t kept a clean sheet in six UCL away games, conceding over two goals per match on average. Against Bayern’s firepower, especially at the Allianz, they’ll need near perfection at both ends of the pitch.

Team News

Bayern Munich came through their weekend clash unscathed, giving Vincent Kompany the luxury of fielding a full-strength side. Harry Kane will once again lead the line, supported by Leroy Sané and Jamal Musiala, with Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka expected to control the midfield battle. At the back, Matthijs de Ligt and Dayot Upamecano will be tasked with shutting down any Brugge counterattacks.

In anticipation and preparation for the upcoming game Bayern Munich shared a training video via their official X handle, showing key players like Harry Kane arriving to the training session. They posted;

For Club Brugge, the big blow is the absence of veteran goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, who will miss out through injury. His replacement, Nordin Jackers, faces a monumental challenge in keeping Bayern’s high-flying attackers quiet. Manager Deila will also look to midfielder Raphael Onyedika to disrupt Bayern’s rhythm and feed the frontline led by Tzolis and Igor Thiago.

Possible Lineups

Bayern Munich possible starting lineup:

SoftFootball Prediction

Bayern Munich’s momentum both domestically and in Europe makes them overwhelming favorites in this tie. With Kane in record-breaking form and their attack firing on all cylinders, the German champions are expected to dominate possession and pile pressure on Club Brugge’s weakened defense. The visitors have attacking intent but lack the defensive discipline to contain Bayern for 90 minutes, especially in Munich, where the Bavarians have not lost a UCL home group-stage match in over a decade.

Expect Brugge to compete bravely, but Bayern’s quality and attacking balance should once again prove too much to handle.

Prediction: Bayern Munich 3–0 Club Brugge
