Bayern Munich have made a late entry into the race to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens, posing a fresh challenge to Chelsea’s ongoing transfer pursuit. The 20-year-old attacker had already agreed personal terms with Chelsea ahead of Dortmund’s Club World Cup campaign. However, the Blues have seen two offers rejected and may now need to fend off Bayern’s growing interest.
According to Kicker, Bayern have turned their attention to Gittens after becoming increasingly convinced that Nico Williams will join Barcelona. The Spanish international was their top attacking target, but his preference for Camp Nou has forced Bayern to reassess.
As a result, Bayern’s recruitment team has opened discussions with Dortmund regarding Gittens. The Bundesliga giants are prepared to sell the England U21 star this summer if they receive an offer in the region of €60 million (£51m).

Gittens, whose contract with Dortmund runs until 2028, remains a vital part of their squad during the ongoing Club World Cup. Sporting director Sebastian Kehl stressed that the youngster remains focused and professional amid the speculation.
“We’ve had one or two conversations with Jamie in the last few days,” Kehl said. “He’s professional enough to know he has to perform. Jamie will still be very important for us in this tournament.” Chelsea, who have already secured Liam Delap, Dario Essugo, and Mamadou Sarr, are still expected to return with a third bid for Gittens. Manager Enzo Maresca confirmed before the Club World Cup that the winger position remains a key area of reinforcement following Jadon Sancho’s exit.
“We have Noni, Pedro, and Ty as proper wingers,” Maresca said. “So for sure, something will happen this window.” With Bayern and Chelsea both circling and Dortmund holding firm on their valuation, a bidding war now seems inevitable. Gittens’ future could be one of the summer’s major transfer storylines.
