Guehi, who moved to Palace from Chelsea in 2021, has become one of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League, making 155 appearances and scoring eight goals. He’s also a regular in the England squad and is expected to feature prominently at the 2026 World Cup, assuming qualification.

Barcelona see Guehi as a “market opportunity” and are reportedly intrigued by the chance to sign such a high-calibre defender without paying a transfer fee. The 24-year-old’s potential availability has also caught the attention of Liverpool, who are keen to reinforce their backline and view Guehi as a viable addition.

However, the defender is thought to be weighing his options carefully. While open to a move to Anfield, Guehi reportedly wants assurances over a starting role before committing to the Premier League champions.

Palace may have to brace for disappointment, especially after turning down offers of over £60 million from Newcastle last summer. Losing Guehi on a free would represent a significant blow for the Eagles.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are beginning to future-proof their defence. With uncertainty surrounding Ronald Araujo’s future, potential exits for Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen, and the ageing of Inigo Martinez, Guehi could eventually form a long-term centre-back pairing with breakout star Pau Cubarsi.

If Guehi sees out his contract, he could become one of the most high-profile free agents in recent years—a prospect that both Barcelona and Liverpool are prepared to act on.
