Softfootball has gathered that Lamine Yamal suffered a hamstring injury after scoring the winning penalty in Barcelona’s 1–0 La Liga victory over RC Celta de Vigo. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed via his official X handle that Yamal’s injury led to an immediate substitution.

The teenager’s setback marked Barcelona’s second injury of the night after João Cancelo also went off, turning an important win into a worrying evening for the club.

Romano revealed:

Lamine Yamal leaves the pitch with an injury after taking and scoring a penalty. Second injury of the night for Barça after João Cancelo.

Initial assessments reportedly suggest a possible torn hamstring, with scans scheduled to determine the full extent of the damage. If confirmed as serious, Yamal could miss several weeks, dealing a major blow to Barcelona’s title push and potentially affecting Spain national football team preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2026, now just weeks away.

The injury comes shortly after Yamal was crowned Laureus World Sports Awards World Young Sportsperson of the Year, continuing his rapid rise as one of football’s brightest talents.

In other post shared by Romano, Hansi Flick described the situation as unfortunate while awaiting medical results, stressing Yamal’s huge importance to the squad. Flick also referenced Cancelo’s injury, underlining the growing strain on Barcelona’s squad depth during a critical stage of the season.

Hansi Flick on Lamine Yamal’s injury: We will wait for tomorrow. We will have a clear diagnosis, and we will see. It’s unfortunate, we have to accept it. Lamine is very important for us, just like Joao Cancelo.

Midfielder Pedri has also offered public support, urging Yamal to remain calm and avoid rushing back. Drawing from his own past injury struggles, Pedri emphasized the importance of patience and proper recovery for a young player still early in his career.

Pedri: I hope Lamine misses the fewest possible amount of time. He’ll undergo the tests tomorrow and we’ll see the nature of the issue. I wish him all the best, and that he stays calm because he’s still young.

The incident has renewed debate around Yamal’s workload after earlier groin issues this season, with many supporters calling for more careful management of the teenager’s minutes.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan and Hakan Çalhanoğlu remain committed to continuing together into next season.
