Barcelona summer 2025 transfers and squad changes

Barcelona have begun reshaping their squad ahead of the 2025–26 campaign, with head coach Hansi Flick eyeing reinforcements to keep pace with domestic and European rivals. After guiding the Catalan giants to a domestic treble—La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup—Flick is now pushing for greater success on the continental stage, especially after narrowly missing out on the Champions League final.

The summer transfer window opened early for clubs participating in the new Club World Cup format, allowing Barcelona to act quickly. Their first major signing came in the form of Joan Garcia, a £21 million capture from Espanyol, expected to take over as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Barcelona are actively in the market for more signings, particularly targeting a winger, full-back, central defender, and potentially a backup striker. Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams remains a top priority in the wide position.

As new arrivals are being planned, Barcelona are also trimming the squad. Young full-back Alex Valle was sold to Como for £5 million, a move that helps free up funds and space for further acquisitions.

In total, Barcelona have spent £21 million and earned £5 million so far, resulting in a current net spend of £16 million. The club’s strategy focuses not just on strengthening but also balancing finances under La Liga’s strict regulations.

Fans can track Barcelona’s ongoing transfer activity, including confirmed moves and rumours, as the main summer window resumes on June 16 and closes on September 1. All eyes will be on how Flick prepares to challenge an upgraded Real Madrid under new manager Xabi Alonso.
