Barcelona Fight Back to Beat Alavés 3–1 and Go Top of LaLiga

4 Min Read

Barcelona climbed back to the top of the LaLiga standings, at least for the moment, after a 3–1 comeback win over Deportivo Alavés at Camp Nou today, Softfootball reports.

The victory, their fourth straight in the league under Hansi Flick, keeps the pressure firmly on Real Madrid, who sit two points behind but still have a game in hand, and puts the ghost of the horrendous 3-0 Champions League defeat to Chelsea firmly behind them.

Things didn’t start smoothly for Barça. In fact, they fell behind almost instantly. A miskick from Marc Casadó gifted Pablo Ibáñez a golden chance inside the opening minute, and the Alavés midfielder pounced from close range. The visitors nearly doubled their lead moments later, but Joan García reacted sharply to prevent an early disaster.

Barcelona responded very quickly. In the 8th minute, Lamine Yamal lashed a powerful finish into the roof of the net after a neat cutback from Raphinha, pulling the home side level and settling the nerves inside the stadium.

Flick’s men turned the game around in the 22nd minute when Dani Olmo calmly slotted home from another precise Raphinha assist, as the Brazilian is slowly working his way back to full fitness following his return in the 4-0 league victory against Athletic Club in their return to the Nou Camp.

Alavés still had their moments; Lucas Boyé threatened on the break, and Antonio Sivera produced a couple of strong saves, but they couldn’t take advantage of Barça’s defensive lapses.

Yamal struck the post shortly before halftime, while Robert Lewandowski was kept out early in the second half. Yamal was in inspired form as he dazzled and dominated the left flank with his mesmerising dribbles, as recognised by Barcelona in a video of one of his dribbles uploaded via the club’s official X account.

Marcus Rashford came on after the break to add more spark going forward, but it was Barça’s defence that delivered a key moment. Pau Cubarsí threw himself in front of Boyé’s shot to deny a certain equaliser, and García stopped Jon Guridi late on to preserve the lead.

That save was one of a series pf saves made by the Spanish goalkeeper, as Barcelona uploaded another video via their official X account of the breathtaking save he pulled off.

In stoppage time, Olmo wrapped things up with his second goal of the night, finishing off a counterattack that caught Alavés stretched and chasing the game.

The win extends Barcelona’s dominant record in this fixture—eight victories in their last nine meetings. Alavés, meanwhile, remain without an away win this season and continue to collect only a small fraction of their points on the road.
