Barcelona are closing in on the signing of Roony Bardghji, the 19-year-old winger widely dubbed the “Swedish Lionel Messi.” A verbal agreement has reportedly been reached with FC Copenhagen for a deal worth €2 million plus add-ons, alongside a future sell-on clause. The teenager is expected to officially become a Barcelona player on July 1, marking the club’s second acquisition of the summer after securing goalkeeper Joan Garcia from Espanyol for €25 million.

Born in Kuwait City, Bardghji represents Sweden at youth level and has impressed with seven goals in 16 appearances for the U17s and U21s combined. He burst onto the European scene with a dramatic winner in Copenhagen’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Manchester United in the 2023 Champions League group stage.

Despite a setback from a serious cruciate ligament injury in May 2024, Bardghji returned to action this March and remains one of Europe’s most sought-after prospects. He has already made 84 senior appearances for Copenhagen, notching 15 goals, including 11 in the 2023–24 season alone.

Multiple clubs — including Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Porto — had shown interest in signing the versatile attacker, who typically plays on the right wing but is comfortable across the frontline. However, it’s Barcelona who appear to have won the race.

Hansi Flick, newly installed as Barça’s head coach, sees Bardghji as part of the club’s long-term vision, focusing on youth development and squad rejuvenation. His arrival adds flair and creativity to the attacking line, and excitement is already building around what he could bring to Camp Nou. With Bardghji’s deal nearly sealed, Barcelona fans can look forward to seeing one of Scandinavia’s brightest stars in blaugrana colours next season.
