Softfootball has gathered that South Africa national football team have officially departed for their 2026 FIFA World Cup base camp in Mexico, with the team sharing airport check-in photos on their official X account showing players dressed in green Adidas travel gear while preparing for the journey.
The trip comes after earlier visa complications temporarily delayed the squad’s travel plans, but head coach Hugo Broos can now fully focus on preparations ahead of South Africa’s opening World Cup clash against co-hosts Mexico national football team on June 11.
They shared:
Bags packed. Tickets printed. World Cup dreams loading…The team is off to our base camp in Mexico! What is your ultimate message of support for the players before they land?

Using the hashtag #BafanaPride, the post encouraged fans to send support messages to the squad, with replies filled with optimism and hopes of a historic tournament run. Many supporters also referenced encouragement from South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who previously backed the team ahead of the competition.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria national football team safely arrived in Poland shortly after defeating Jamaica national football team 3–0 in London to win the 2026 Unity Cup for the fourth time in their history.

In another development, FIFA celebrated Mexico’s historic role in World Cup history, noting that the country became the first nation to host the tournament twice after staging the 1986 edition following the 1970 competition.
