Softfootball understands that the 28-year-old has been one of Villa’s most consistent performers since joining from Nottingham Forest in 2020, making 191 appearances so far. Manager Unai Emery has often praised Cash for his reliability and fitness levels, recently praising the defender’s solid performance in the 2-1 win over Tottenham that earned the side a vital three points.
Cash’s current deal was due to expire in 2027, but Villa have acted quickly to reward his form and ward off renewed interest, notably from AC Milan, who were keen last summer. The fresh terms underline Emery’s faith in him as a vital piece in his setup, especially in that tricky inverted right-back role that demands both stamina and precision, just as Unai Emery explained when he broke down how his team defeated Tottenham.
At the same time, talks are ongoing for a new contract for captain John McGinn, whose leadership and drive have been central to Villa’s impressive progress under Emery. According to Fabrizio romano via his official X account, negotiations are said to be at an advanced stage, and the 30-year-old is expected to sign soon. McGinn’s influence in midfield and European experience remain crucial, even as he edges into his thirties.
