Aston Villa have reportedly reached an agreement in principle with right-back Matty Cash over a new contract that will keep him at the club until June 2029, with an option for another year to 2030. This is according to sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, who gave the update via his official X account.

Matty Cash has agreed to sign new deal at Aston Villa until June 2029 with an option to extend until 2030. Seen as key player by #AVFC hierarchy and staff, documents will be signed this week.

Softfootball understands that the 28-year-old has been one of Villa’s most consistent performers since joining from Nottingham Forest in 2020, making 191 appearances so far. Manager Unai Emery has often praised Cash for his reliability and fitness levels, recently praising the defender’s solid performance in the 2-1 win over Tottenham that earned the side a vital three points.

Cash’s current deal was due to expire in 2027, but Villa have acted quickly to reward his form and ward off renewed interest, notably from AC Milan, who were keen last summer. The fresh terms underline Emery’s faith in him as a vital piece in his setup, especially in that tricky inverted right-back role that demands both stamina and precision, just as Unai Emery explained when he broke down how his team defeated Tottenham.

At the same time, talks are ongoing for a new contract for captain John McGinn, whose leadership and drive have been central to Villa’s impressive progress under Emery. According to Fabrizio romano via his official X account, negotiations are said to be at an advanced stage, and the 30-year-old is expected to sign soon. McGinn’s influence in midfield and European experience remain crucial, even as he edges into his thirties.

After Matty Cash new deal in place until June 2029, Aston Villa also work on new contracts for both McGinn and Rogers. New deal almost ready for McGinn… …while talks are at early stages with Morgan Rogers after #AVFC rejected several approaches in the summer.

He explained, Morgan Rogers is also on Villa’s renewal radar. The 23-year-old, crowned PFA Young Player of the Year for 2024–25, drew attention from Liverpool and Tottenham in the summer, but Villa refused to sell. Though he’s had a quiet start to this campaign, just two assists and two goals in ten games, the club still sees him as a long-term asset and plan to bump up his wages to reflect his growing role.

Villa’s moves send a clear message, Emery is building for the future, not just maintaining the present.
