Softfootball understands that Mikel Arteta was full of praise for his Arsenal side following their 1–0 win in Singapore, hailing the squad’s consistency, new signings’ adaptation, and the emergence of exciting academy talents.
The victory saw first-team debuts handed to teenage duo Max Dowman and Marli Salmon, while several academy players impressed across the pitch. Arteta, speaking after the match, was particularly encouraged by the depth and hunger shown by the team throughout.
The duo of Salmon and Dowman came in for William Saliba and Bukayo Saka in the second half, respectively.

Speaking after Gunner’s famous 1-0 win over Milan at the National Stadium in Singapore’s season opener to the club media, Arteta showered his praise on his players for displaying the team’s style.
He said:
“It’s good, winning and keeping a clean sheet as well.” “Overall, a very good and consistent performance throughout the game.
“A big joy as well to watch so many young kids playing at 15, 16, 17 years old and performing at that level. It speaks volumes about the academy and the work they’re doing.”
The fixture also marked the first appearance for Arsenal in Singapore since 2018, with over 50,000 fans in attendance. The Gunners are due to face Newcastle next in their final game at the National Stadium. Arteta was quick to acknowledge the warm reception, adding:
“It was very special we’ve been here before, and we know how special this place is for the club. The fans were brilliant again today and hopefully even more turn up for the next match.”
The manager also had positive words for Arsenal’s new signings, who have hit the ground running during preseason.
Earlier, Softfootball captured Arsenal’s youngster Ethan Nwaneri’s reaction to Arsenal’s latest squad, and they hope they fight next season.
But in Arteta’s words, he noted that:
“They’ve adapted really quickly.
“The group has made them feel welcome straightaway. You could tell they looked relaxed, confident, and it reflected in their performances.”
With more preseason action to come, Arteta confirmed that the focus will remain on fitness, integration, and continuing to sharpen the team ahead of the new campaign.

However, Arteta was silent about the recent buzz of the club reaching consensus over Viktor Gyokeres’ deal as captured by Softfootball on Tuesday.
Arsenal plays Newcastle next Saturday at the same stadium, as Arteta keeps checking out his players ahead of the new season.
