Mikel Arteta has praised teenage sensation Max Dowman after the youngster delivered an impressive display in Arsenal 2–1 FA Cup fifth-round victory over Mansfield Town on March 7, 2026 as reported by fabrizo romano via their official x handle.

Dowman, just 16 years old, made history by becoming Arsenal’s youngest-ever FA Cup player, and his performance immediately caught the attention of Arteta. The Arsenal manager praised the youngster’s composure, awareness, and technical ability in difficult situations.

Speaking after the match, Arteta said:

Max Dowman, again exceptional. When the ball is bouncing and you have people in your back, the way he handles time and space and the touches that he takes, just incredible. That tells you the talent that we have.

The appearance was particularly significant for Dowman as it marked his first senior involvement in four months after recovering from an ankle injury.

Despite his age, the midfielder showed maturity beyond his years, dealing confidently with physical pressure and tight spaces.

Away from the FA Cup spotlight, Arteta has also urged his squad to stay mentally strong as the season reaches its decisive stage. The manager recently called on Arsenal players and supporters to embrace courage and belief during the final four months of the campaign, describing the title run-in as a privilege rather than pressure.

Arteta has also brushed aside criticism of Arsenal’s effectiveness from set-pieces, where rivals have jokingly labeled the team “Corner Kick FC.” The Spaniard insisted he is actually frustrated that the team has not scored even more from such situations, stressing that Arsenal aim to be the most dominant side in every aspect of the game.

Softfootball reported that Dowman has already built a strong reputation within Arsenal’s academy system. During the 2025–26 season he scored four goals in the UEFA Youth League and has also made two Premier League appearances, further highlighting the club’s belief in his future.

Arteta’s praise reflects Arsenal’s continued commitment to developing young talent, with Dowman now emerging as one of the most exciting prospects in the club’s pipeline.
