Arsenal star Myles Lewis-Skelly rejects Real Madrid move and signs new deal

Myles Lewis-Skelly has pledged his future to Arsenal by agreeing a new long-term contract, turning down interest from European giants Real Madrid. The 18-year-old, who enjoyed a sensational breakthrough season at the Emirates, played 39 matches and was central to Arsenal’s push for the Premier League title and Champions League semi-finals.

His standout displays, particularly in the quarter-finals of Europe’s top competition, caught the attention of Real Madrid, who made their interest known. However, Lewis-Skelly has decided to stay loyal to the club that gave him his senior debut less than a year ago, with an official announcement on his new contract expected shortly.

The teenager’s rapid rise has not gone unnoticed at international level either. Lewis-Skelly broke into the England squad this year and made history by becoming the youngest player to score on his senior debut in March. He remains a key part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans as England prepare for next summer’s World Cup.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher was among those who praised the Arsenal youngster’s confidence and maturity. Comparing him to the likes of Jude Bellingham and Wayne Rooney, Carragher described Lewis-Skelly as “very, very special” and hailed his fearless style and natural footballing intelligence.

Lewis-Skelly’s renewal comes at a time when Arsenal are working to secure the futures of several other key players. Centre-back Gabriel recently signed a new four-year deal and expressed pride in his development since joining the Gunners, saying: “I arrived here as a young player and I’m so happy to continue this amazing journey.”

Talks are ongoing with Bukayo Saka, William Saliba, Ethan Nwaneri, and Leandro Trossard. However, negotiations with midfielder Thomas Partey have hit a standstill, and with his contract expiring in July, interest from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid continues to grow.

While focusing on contracts, Arsenal are also active in the transfer market. Mikel Arteta is keen on strengthening his squad, with strikers Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko topping the list of targets. Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi is poised to become Arsenal’s first summer signing in a deal worth £55 million.

Lewis-Skelly’s decision to stay is a major boost for the Gunners, who continue to build around a young and exciting core as they aim to end their long wait for Premier League glory.
