Arsenal’s hopes of signing RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko this summer have hit a significant roadblock due to the player’s salary demands, despite being ready to meet the £70 million transfer fee. The 22-year-old Slovenia international has emerged as one of Mikel Arteta’s top targets, alongside Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres, in a bid to strengthen Arsenal’s centre-forward options for next season.

While the Gunners have been in regular contact with Sesko’s representatives and Leipzig, a deal has stalled as his entourage are demanding wages beyond Arsenal’s current wage structure. There is growing frustration within the club, as Arsenal were confident Sesko could develop into a world-class striker and were prepared to pay Leipzig’s asking price in full.

The striker had previously attracted strong interest from Saudi giants Al-Hilal but opted to continue his career in Europe for now. However, with Al-Hilal still circling, Sesko’s camp may be using that interest as leverage in salary negotiations.

Arsenal remain keen, but his current contract runs until 2028, putting Leipzig in a strong negotiating position. The Bundesliga side are not expected to block a move if their financial conditions are satisfied. Sesko scored 21 goals and provided six assists in 45 appearances last season, bringing his total to 39 goals and eight assists in 87 games for Leipzig since joining from Red Bull Salzburg.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s alternative, Viktor Gyokeres, appears open to a switch. The Swedish forward is believed to have rejected both Manchester United and Juventus, preferring a move to the Emirates. Despite being aware he is second choice behind Sesko, Gyokeres is reportedly willing to wait for Arsenal to make a formal move. Sporting director Andrea Berta and Arteta are still considering both options.
