Arsenal Set to Secure Zubimendi Deal, Partey Contract Talks Underway

Thomas Partey

Arsenal are reportedly closing in on the signing of Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, with the club ready to activate his €60 million (£51m) release clause this summer.

Despite concerns raised in March when Real Madrid appeared ready to intervene, Arsenal are now confident of securing the 26-year-old midfielder’s signature. Zubimendi had previously been linked with a move to Liverpool but chose to remain at Sociedad for another season.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are also in talks to extend the contract of key midfielder Thomas Partey, whose current deal expires this summer. According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, both the club and Partey are keen on reaching an agreement. Partey has thrived under Mikel Arteta’s management, and his renewal is a priority for the club, though discussions are still ongoing.

Partey is reportedly open to a new deal, either for one or two years, with improved terms. If no agreement is reached, Partey will explore other options. Alongside Zubimendi’s imminent arrival, Arsenal will also be losing Jorginho at the end of the season, making reinforcements in midfield a top priority.

Looking ahead, Arsenal are targeting a striker for the summer window, with Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko among potential targets. However, moves for high-profile players like Alexander Isak and Victor Osimhen seem unlikely.

Additionally, the club is keeping an eye on Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen as a potential addition to their defensive ranks and is also aiming to bring in a second-choice goalkeeper for next season.

Arsenal’s focus remains on strengthening key areas, with Zubimendi’s signing believed to be a done deal, alongside Partey’s potential contract extension.
