Arsenal set £70m price as Bayern chase Martinelli transfer

Arsenal have made it clear that only a substantial offer, in the region of £70 million or more, would prompt them to consider selling Gabriel Martinelli amid interest from Bayern Munich. The Brazilian winger is reportedly being considered as an alternative to Nico Williams, who chose to join Barcelona this summer.

The Gunners are said to be in the market for a new left winger due to mixed performances from both Martinelli and Leandro Trossard over the past two seasons. Despite speculation that Arsenal may be open to offers, journalist Charles Watts insists that only an extraordinary bid should lead to a sale.

Since joining Arsenal for just £6m from Ituano in 2019, Martinelli has contributed 51 goals and 29 assists in 225 matches. Though not always consistent in the final third, his work rate and tactical flexibility have made him a trusted option under Mikel Arteta.

Martinelli’s standout campaign came in 2022-23 when he netted 15 Premier League goals. However, his output dropped in the past two seasons, prompting discussion about whether Arsenal should seek upgrades in that role.

Watts argued that even if another winger arrives, Martinelli should stay, highlighting his ability to play on either flank and even as a central striker. According to him, Arsenal’s problem in recent seasons hasn’t been starting quality but squad depth. Keeping Martinelli, he says, gives Arteta more flexibility to rotate during a demanding campaign.

Although the Gunners have no pressing need to sell, Martinelli’s contract runs for another two years with an option for a further 12 months. His commitment to the club has not been questioned, and there is no indication he is looking to leave the Emirates.

Bayern’s potential bid could rival their club record transfer, currently held by Harry Kane. With Manchester United reportedly nearing a £60m deal for Bryan Mbeumo, Watts argued that Martinelli, with greater versatility and top-level experience, should demand at least £70m.

In Watts’ view, anything around £50m would be a gross undervaluation. Martinelli has shown he can deliver in both the Premier League and Champions League, and his defensive contributions add to his overall value.

If a high-profile winger does arrive this summer and Martinelli struggles to secure regular minutes, his situation may be reassessed next year. But for now, Arsenal are only entertaining “silly money”—and Bayern will need to spend big if they hope to lure the Brazilian to Germany.
