Arsenal are feeling confident about tying Jurrien Timber down to a new long-term deal, with talks between both sides said to be going really well. The Dutch defender has been outstanding since joining from Ajax back in July 2023 for around €40 million.
After missing most of his first season through injury, he’s bounced back stronger than ever, becoming one of the key names in Mikel Arteta’s defense. The Gunners’ backline has looked solid and calm all season, barely conceding, which says a lot about how much Timber adds to the system.

This whole thing ties into Arsenal’s plan to keep their defensive base strong and settled. After William Saliba signed a new long-term deal and David Raya’s improved contract as reported by Softfootball, the club sees Timber as another piece of that long-term puzzle. Their record-breaking defensive start has already sparked talk about another serious title charge, and the idea is to keep the group together for years to come.
Right now, Timber’s deal runs until June 2028, but Arsenal are looking to reward him for his efforts. Talks are focused on doubling his salary from about £90,000 to roughly £180,000 per week. Negotiations haven’t hit any major problems so far, and everyone expects an agreement soon.
Arteta has been full of praise for Timber, calling him phenomenal and a player who makes everyone around him better. Since returning from his ACL injury, he’s started six of nine matches this season and looks right at home again across all defensive positions.

His return has been massive for Arsenal, both in confidence and balance. Whether he’s playing at left-back, right-back, or in central defense, Timber always looks in control. With long-term deals for Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães already sorted, securing Timber’s future is just another step toward keeping this team together. Arteta and the Arsenal board know that to keep fighting at the very top, you’ve got to build stability, and Timber is part of that foundation.
