Argentina continued their fine form with Lo Celso firing them into a 1–0 win over Venezuela at the Hard Rock Stadium, but all eyes were on one man who didn’t feature — Lionel Messi. Coach Lionel Scaloni confirmed after the match that the captain was rested to avoid fitness risks. He said:
We decided that Leo wouldn’t play. These are friendlies; we won’t take risks with anyone, especially at his age and schedule.

Argentina’s only goal came from Giovani Lo Celso, who finished calmly in the first half after a clever build-up through midfield. With Messi not available, Scaloni turned to youth, giving Nicolás Paz his first senior start. The 19-year-old impressed, showing composure and creativity between the lines. Franco Mastantuono was also unavailable after being ruled out with a muscle strain.
Scaloni said post-match:
We won, but that’s not the most important thing. We wanted to see how the team performed and to give the younger players minutes. On Tuesday, the new guys will get their chance.

Enzo Fernández was another standout, operating alongside Leandro Paredes. He said:
Every time I come, I want to do my best and give 100%.
Paz, meanwhile, could not hide his excitement:
It’s an incredible group. They help me a lot. Scaloni told me to just be myself and enjoy it.

Venezuela, coached by Fernando Batista, showed fight and structure. Goalkeeper José Contreras was their star, pulling off 10 saves to keep the scoreline respectable. Batista said:
We competed with the world champions. Contreras was immense, but we must finish our chances.
Argentina posted a video that celebrates Giovani Lo Celso’s first-half left-footed strike, assisted by Lautaro Martínez, that secured Argentina’s 1-0 friendly win over Venezuela on their official X account.

Argentina next face Puerto Rico on Tuesday, where fans hope Messi will make his return. One thing is certain: even without their captain, the world champions still look sharp, composed, and ready for more.
