Antonio Rudiger has accused Pachuca defender Gustavo Cabral of racially abusing him during Real Madrid’s 3-1 victory in the Club World Cup, prompting FIFA to launch an investigation. The incident reportedly took place in stoppage time, with Rudiger visibly upset and approaching referee Ramon Abatti to report the abuse.

Sources claim Cabral used a deeply offensive Spanish racial slur, though the player has denied this version of events, insisting he used a different insult directed at Rudiger. The match official triggered FIFA’s anti-discrimination protocol by crossing his arms, signaling a formal review is underway.

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso confirmed Rudiger’s complaint and backed his player’s claims, stating, “We support Antonio. If what he says happened, then it’s unacceptable and must be dealt with seriously.” Alonso added that the protocol activation reflects the gravity of the allegations.

Meanwhile, Pachuca manager Jaime Lozano said he was unaware of the incident, having not been informed by his players or coaching staff. He pledged to speak with Cabral personally, emphasizing that such behavior would not align with the values of the club or the player as he knows him.

Despite the controversy, Real Madrid put in a dominant display, even after going down to 10 men in the seventh minute. Goals from Jude Bellingham, Arda Guler, and Federico Valverde sealed the win, with Elías Montiel grabbing a consolation for Pachuca.

Rudiger’s accusation is now under full scrutiny, and the outcome of FIFA’s investigation could have significant disciplinary consequences depending on the findings. Real Madrid return to Club World Cup action against Red Bull Salzburg on Friday.
