Antonio back with a bang for West Ham, seven months after near death experience

Good news for football fans across the world as Michail Antonio returned to the pitch for the first time since his near death experience seven months ago, Softfootball reports.

The Jamaican was involved in a fatal accident where his Ferrari crash was completely destroyed beyond repair and his leg broken. He had his femur bone put back together after it was shattered in four places.

After surgery, it was feared that his career might be over but he bounced back. According to Dailymail, Antonio featured for 45 minutes last night for West Ham Under-21 side in their friendly against Boreham Wood.

The 35-year-old who hasn’t played since his accident in December, 2024 scored a brace as the Hammers U-21 won 4-1.

Earlier this month, West Ham promised to keep supporting the player, who is on £90,000 a week wages, through the process of his recovery, although he is a free agent after his contract expired this summer.

The statement read:

“Given Michail Antonio’s unique situation, following his serious road traffic accident in December 2024, there will be no formal decision and announcement on his future until such time that it is considered right and appropriate.

“However, as his current contract is also due to expire on 30 June, for the purposes of the Premier League Retained List procedure at the end of the 2024/25 season, Michail will be listed as a free transfer.

“As a long-serving, highly-respected player, and a much-loved member of the West Ham family, the club’s absolute priority at this time is to support Michail personally in his journey to resume playing at the highest level.”
