Andre Onana has reportedly rejected the idea of leaving Manchester United this summer, despite interest from Ligue 1 side Monaco, who are preparing for Champions League football. The Cameroonian goalkeeper endured a turbulent 2024–25 campaign at Old Trafford, where his performances were marred by inconsistency and a number of high-profile errors.

Though speculation suggested a possible move to Monaco was on the cards, The Guardian reports that Onana has made it clear he wants to stay at United and earn the trust of new head coach Ruben Amorim. Despite Amorim reportedly seeking a fresh option in goal, Onana is focused on redemption at United and intends to see out his current contract, which runs until 2028.

The 29-year-old made 50 appearances last season, conceding 65 goals and recording just 11 clean sheets. Across his entire stint with United, he’s featured 101 times, letting in 148 goals and keeping 24 clean sheets.

United’s limited transfer budget may also impact their ability to replace him this summer, as the club are currently prioritising offensive reinforcements. Talks are ongoing for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, with further attacking moves dependent on potential exits. The future of several United attackers remains uncertain, with Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho all linked with moves away from Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, United continue to explore other goalkeeping options, including Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez, Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi, and Lille’s Lucas Chevalier. Backup keeper Altay Bayindir is likely to leave, but veteran Tom Heaton has extended his stay until 2026. With Amorim yet to fully assess his squad in pre-season, Onana’s determination to fight for his place could see him stay between the posts for the Red Devils—at least for now.
