Andre Onana has been warned by Ruben Amorim that his place as Manchester United’s No.1 goalkeeper is under threat as Manchester United host Arsenal at Old Trafford in their opening match of the Premier League today.
The Cameroonian had a nightmare campaign last season following his £47.2million arrival from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023 and the Reds would have sold him if they had found a buyer to pay £35million.

Amorim won’t want to take any chances with his team selection against a strong Arsenal side today, with a decision yet to be made over Onana in goal. It is understood the 29-year-old feels match fit and sharp enough to start this afternoon though he will have to convince the United head coach it is the right decision.
According to Fabrizio Romano via his Facebook page, Ruben Amorim was asked on Saturday whether André Onana is ready to feature against Arsenal and if he will be Manchester United’s first choice goalkeeper this season. The United boss made it clear that the 29-year-old’s position is not guaranteed, saying:
“It’s like the other players. Everyone has to win their place. You will see on Sunday.”
Onana has conceded a staggering 148 goals in his two seasons in Manchester. In 72 Premier League appearances he has been beaten 102 times. Though, United have been open to adding a goalkeeper to their squad this summer, but any move would be for an upgrade on Bayindir as back-up rather than replacing Onana.
The Cameroon international will miss several matches this season due to his anticipated participation in the Africa Cup of Nations, and Amorim is aware he needs a suitable option in reserve. Will Andre Onana fight for his position and redeem his image at Old Trafford this season? …. only time will tell.
