Softfootball can confirm that Canadian international Alphonso Davies has officially returned to training with Bayern Munich after spending months on the sidelines due to a serious knee injury.

In a statement shared by the club via their official X handle, Bayern confirmed that the 25-year-old left-back was able to complete large portions of the final training session ahead of their Bundesliga fixture against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Bayern’s statement:

Alphonso Davies is back in team training. Phonzy was able to complete large parts of today’s final training session ahead of the Bundesliga match against Borussia Mönchengladbach. However, as head coach Vincent Kompany confirmed in the press conference, he won’t be available for tomorrow night’s clash.

Despite the positive update, head coach Vincent Kompany clarified during his pre-match press conference that Davies will not be available for selection in the upcoming clash.

Davies had recently raised fresh injury concerns after being substituted during Bayern’s 3–2 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend with a muscle problem. The incident came after an already disrupted campaign caused by a long-term knee injury that had kept the defender out for an extended period earlier in the season.

Following the latest setback, the Canadian worked closely with a rehabilitation coach during his recovery program and appeared in good spirits during training sessions.

Initial medical assessments had suggested the possibility of a three-week absence, but his quicker-than-expected return to individual training has cast doubt on that original timeline and raised optimism within the club.

Despite the encouraging progress, Bayern Munich are expected to proceed cautiously with Davies’ reintegration into competitive action. With the season entering a decisive stage across domestic and European competitions, the club’s medical and coaching staff are determined to avoid rushing him back prematurely.

Kompany currently has several options available to cover the left side of defence while Davies continues his recovery. Hiroki Ito and Raphaël Guerreiro remain the most natural replacements, while Josip Stanišić and Konrad Laimer are also capable of filling in if required, meaning there is no immediate urgency to accelerate Davies’ return to match action.

Still on Bayern news, the German champions are actively working to extend the contract of striker Harry Kane beyond 2027 as part of their long-term sporting project. Bayern’s hierarchy are eager to progress negotiations following the recent contract renewal of defender Dayot Upamecano.

Talks between the club and Kane’s representatives are already underway, with financial and personal terms currently being discussed as both sides explore the possibility of a long-term agreement.
