Aina started the match and played the full 90 minutes, making his 14th Premier League appearance of the season. The versatile defender has scored once during an impressive campaign for Nottingham Forest.

Awoniyi, meanwhile, was introduced in the 62nd minute, replacing leading scorer Chris Wood for his 10th league appearance of the season.

Manchester City took control of the contest in the opening half through goals from Bernardo Silva and captain Kevin De Bruyne, putting the champions firmly in command before the interval.

Jeremy Doku then produced a moment of brilliance after the break, finishing off a superb individual run to add City’s third goal and complete a convincing victory.

The result ends City’s recent winless streak and lifts Guardiola’s men back into the Premier League’s top four. They now sit nine points behind leaders Liverpool, who were held to a dramatic 3-3 draw by Newcastle United.

For Nottingham Forest, the defeat leaves them sixth in the standings, with the gap to the Champions League places now stretched to four points.

Despite the loss, Aina once again delivered a committed performance, while Awoniyi will hope for more opportunities as Forest look to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures.
