Manchester City defeated Leeds United 1-0 to collect a valuable three points in the Premier League title race. Softfootball believes, Leeds will have themselves to blame especially striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who missed several glorious opportunities.

Leeds created the more dangerous chances, covered more ground and worked tirelessly throughout the match. Everything seemed in their favour except one crucial element, putting the ball in the net.

The game could easily have ended 2-1 in Leeds’ favour based on clear-cut chances created. However, they were blunt in front of goal, and that proved costly.

City, on the other hand, made their moment count. Their January signing, Antoine Semenyo officially signed from Bournemouth on 9 January 2026 scored the only goal of the match, finishing brilliantly from a wonderful assist by Rayan Aït-Nouri.

It is also important to note that City are currently playing without Erling Haaland, a huge miss for the squad. Many fans and pundits questioned how they would cope in his absence, but City showed resilience and secured the maximum points.

Another standout aspect of their performance was their defensive discipline. Once they took the lead, they fought hard to protect it, a true sign of champions who understand what it takes to win a title. The victory now piles pressure on Arsenal, who are set to face Chelsea on Sunday, 1st March 2026.
