Mikel Arteta has brushed aside the growing “bottlers” label directed at Arsenal F.C., describing it as an individual opinion rather than fact.
Softfootball understands the criticism resurfaced after Arsenal’s dramatic 2–2 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. on February 18, 2026, when a two-goal lead slipped away in the second half which handed momentum back to their title rivals.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano via his official X account, Arteta dismissed the reccuring label and termed it individuals perspectitive which should be respected.
Romano posted:
Arteta on ‘bottlers’ narrative: “The what? Bottlers? That’s individual opinion, perspective and you have to respect that”. “You lose two points against Wolves in the manner that the game played out, you have to take it in the chin. That’s it, it’s part of our role”.
Arteta previously admitted that “too many things went wrong” at Molineux, where debutant Tom Edozie struck late to deny Arsenal two crucial points in a fiercely contested Premier League title race. The result intensified scrutiny, with rival fans reviving past narratives of near misses in high-pressure moments.

Despite the backlash, Arteta has adopted a measured tone, stressing accountability and resilience within his squad. He has also urged supporters to remain loyal during difficult spells, insisting that backing the team in setbacks is just as important as celebrating victories.
While historical patterns continue to fuel debate about Arsenal’s consistency, Arteta remains focused on internal growth, determined to prove that his side can overcome adversity and sustain a genuine title challenge.
