Senegal’s historic AFCON 2025 victory has been followed by an extraordinary gesture of appreciation from the country’s leadership. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has officially honoured the champions with a combined reward package worth $6.2 million, alongside large allocations of prime land.

- 💰 Technical & Backroom Staff: $90,000 each + 1,000 m² plot of land

The generous rewards underline the national importance of Senegal’s triumph and the pride generated by Pape Thiaw’s Lions, who delivered the country’s second AFCON title under intense pressure.

The final itself was marked by controversy, especially during added time when Senegalese players briefly refused to continue after a disputed penalty decision in favour of Morocco.

Sadio Mané played a crucial leadership role by convincing his teammates to return to the pitch and see out the match, an act that has since earned widespread praise.
African football legend Samuel Eto’o commended Mané for his leadership, while Rio Ferdinand also hailed him for “saving African football” by ensuring the final was completed.
