Olympique Marseille official bid to Arsenal for Ethan Nwaneri: loan until June, no buy option clause, salary covered. Loan fee over €3m but based on player’s appearances as Nwaneri wants regular game time. Arsenal are open to discuss terms with negotiations underway.

Arsenal, which recently played a 0-0 draw against Nottingham Forest and a 3-2 victory against Chelsea, is open to talks, seeing the move as a good step for the young midfielder’s development without impacting their long-term plans.

The Gunners have made it clear that any loan won’t include a purchase clause, showing they still believe Nwaneri is very much part of their future.

The 18-year-old, who made history as Arsenal’s youngest Premier League debutant at 15 years and 181 days, has struggled for playing time this season. He’s only made 12 appearances in 2025–26, as summer signings Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke have kept him on the sidelines.

Arsenal’s coaching staff, including Mikel Arteta, back the move, viewing it as a positive step. They’re particularly encouraged by Roberto De Zerbi’s attacking style at Marseille, which fits well with Nwaneri’s creative and versatile game.

Marseille, who are third in Ligue 1, see him as a key addition to bolster their attack alongside Mason Greenwood and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Stade Vélodrome club is also preparing for a Champions League clash with Liverpool, which shows just how high the level of competition would be if Nwaneri joins. He would immediately step into intense domestic and European games, which could be a huge test but also an important chance to develop.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace and West Ham United have shown interest too. Palace made enquiries, and West Ham tried to sign him earlier this month. But Arsenal seem to favour Marseille, mainly because of the tactical fit and De Zerbi’s reputation, making the French side the likely destination if the deal goes through.
