Bournemouth goalkeeper, Đorđe Petrović has revealed that he likes being a leader by showing action as club football return this weekend after the international break, Softfootball reports.
On loan from Chelsea, Petrović was in goal when Bournemouth suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat against Aston Villa in the Premier League Match-Day 11 which dropped the Cherries to nine on the table with 17 points.
Speaking in an interview shared via Bournemouth’s official X handle, Petrović said:
The difference in the Premier League is more a mental thing – having time to make the right decision, when to come for the ball or not.
Strikers always have a clear situation, so you have to be ready and be 100% focused, even for crosses. It’s more mental for a goalkeeper than physical. I think it’s very important to be focused and to see things before they happen.
As goalkeepers, we are behind all of our teammates, so sometimes you can stop something early with communication. The most important thing for me is to speak on the pitch.
Outside the pitch, I like to be a leader – not speaking too much but leading by actions, how you train in the gym and how you treat other people. It’s important to help your teammates, not just with your hands and your feet.
Ahead of the Bournemouth’s game against West Ham United at the Vitality Stadium, the Serbian goalkeeper will be hoping to help his team pick all three points.
Petrović made 31 Ligue 1 appearances for Strasbourg last season, kept 10 clean sheets and posted a 76.81% save percentage.
In the second half of the season, he showed remarkable consistency for Strasbourg, recording seven clean sheets with just 10 goals conceded, and achieved a 85.53% save rate across 16 matches.
